The Kootenay River

Driving along side the Kootenay River from Libby, Montana to Canada has been pure road joy! It doesn't get much better than this -- traveling on seldom-traveled roads with high scenic value. I began on National Forest Road 228 from Libby, Montana.

Here's a look at the map.

This view is above the Libby Dam where it's lake-like.

Rock outcroppings tumble everywhere, on the road too.

This unstable rock formation doesn't weather well.

I managed to paddle a bit in the Kootenay River, too.

Getting close to views of Canada's Rocky Mountains.

Stopped here for supper (lovingly packed by Chef Renauld).

This view is near Columbia Lake, Canada.

Interesting rock formation.

Up close view of above photo.

Dramatic sky, dramatic bald mountain peaks!

Sailing and motor boating are popular activities.

Another seldom-traveled road; I averaged 25 mph and could stop whenever wherever!

It's a joy to be able to stop and photo anything anywhere on roads like this with little or no traffic.

Looks like flowers (above), but it's seeding milk weed.

Coming up next, Radium Hot Springs.
